Everything about this watch is superb. The box and leather watch holder are beautiful and perfect for the theme of the watch! The face and bezel are crisp and clear and the color choices are very pleasing. The bracelet clasp is milled and has a very nice quick adjustment. I’ve already gotten compliments from strangers on this watch! On top of all of this it’s an amazing deal!

I don’t reach for superlatives easily when it comes to watches, but the Makoto Hamana has earned them.
I first encountered it at the Montreal Independent Watch Show, and it was the first piece that stopped me cold. I came back to the table three separate times before committing, which, honestly, is exactly how a purchase like this should go. It has barely left my wrist since.
The Hamana is a 200m dive watch with a clean blue dial, and it does precisely what it claims to do, nothing more, nothing less. That restraint is a design virtue, not a limitation. The dial reads clearly, the case wears comfortably across a range of occasions, and the lume is genuinely impressive, not an afterthought. The quick-release pins on the bracelet are a practical touch I’ve put to use already, swapping to sailcloth and finding it just as capable there.
What added to my confidence was a conversation with Ryan, the founder, at the show. He didn’t oversell the watch. He let it speak for itself, which told me everything I needed to know about how this brand is being built.
The Hamana is a strong argument that you don’t need to look to big brand names to find value and quality! I’ve already ordered my next one!
