Makoto Watch Company is the culmination of a lifelong dream realized by Ryan LeClair, a devoted watch enthusiast and collector with decades of experience. After years of delving into the world of horology and exploring the intricate details of fine timepieces, Ryan embarked on a new journey: creating his own watch brand.
His global travels led him to Japan, where he was captivated by the country’s profound culture, artistry, and dedication to perfection. Ryan’s admiration for Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship inspired him to share that magic through the creation of Makoto Watch Company.

The feel good factor and comfort level of wearing the Hamana is excellent. It feels well balanced rather than top heavy, and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The micro adjustment clasp is excellent, and gives a good amount of on the fly adjustment. Overall the build quality, quality control, and finishing, are excellent. The accuracy of the Miyota 9039 is excellent; mine is running at +2 seconds per day.

Everything about this watch is superb. The box and leather watch holder are beautiful and perfect for the theme of the watch! The face and bezel are crisp and clear and the color choices are very pleasing. The bracelet clasp is milled and has a very nice quick adjustment. I’ve already gotten compliments from strangers on this watch! On top of all of this it’s an amazing deal!

Meet Ryan LeClair, the visionary behind Makoto Watch Company. Ryan’s journey into the world of horology began over two decades ago, fueled by a passion for watches that saw him collect more than 200 timepieces. His diverse watch collection, therefore, offered a unique perspective on watchmaking; consequently, it helped him discern the finest qualities across all price points.
Makoto Watch Company: The Journey to a Modern, Precision-Aware, Quality-Attentive Customer Experience
Before diving into the world of watches, Ryan spent 15 years owning and operating a renowned furniture store in London, Ontario. This experience honed his skills in design and customer service, focusing on delivering both exceptional quality and a personalized customer experience. These values—quality craftsmanship and attentive service—would later, consequently, become the cornerstone of his watch brand philosophy. Moreover, these principles would not only guide his design choices but also, ultimately, shape the brand’s identity.
Ryan’s love for travel took him to Japan, a country that profoundly influenced his brand identity.
Japan’s simplicity and craftsmanship, therefore, inspired Ryan to create a brand reflecting these qualities.
